This is part I of the coverage in the 3 piece series giving you a never before seen insight into the drifting madness within Japan. I say never before seen because not person has filmed an Ebisu Drift Matsuri where they have put themselves only inches from then panel smashing body breaking action.
Sit back and enjoy a general overview of the weekend from a drift perspective, let the engine noise and panel bending symphony drop you right into the action. The next inclusion in the series will be more about the inner workings of the community at these events, followed up by an action packed wall tapping car crashing video.

Driving to a Subaru company class I spotted this 180sx rolling on XR4’s, so I quickly jumped out and got a couple snaps. Now it may not be sitting on its rails or shakotan (really low ride height in Japanese) but it has all the ingrediants to be a good looking car, nice front fenders, old school offset, cool twin pipes, but it just needs to dropped 3-4 inches all round.

Its the start of an insane weekend and to kick it off is the heart stopping breeze that brushes across you skin instantly waking you up from your slumber. Its a weekend like no other, its Ebisu Drift Matsuri! Three events a year held at the world famous Ebisu circuit over the course of 2 days, ohhh did I forget to mention 2 days 32 hours non stop drifting from sunrise to sunset. Ebisu is scattered with more tracks in one location then you could ever dream of and filled with hundreds of people all with the same passion for drifting.
There is no event on this earth that can compare to the pure insanity that happens at a Drift Matsuri, the countless crashes and cars rolling around on their roofs, the people you meet and friends you make all come together to make one event you will never forget.

First off, sorry for the few low quality pictures this was a out of the blue situation and I only had my trusty but very useless mobile phone camera with me, and the shop owner was not a real fan of picture taking so I was very careful to not upset him.
On the way to work that afternoon I noticed a shiny set of Work Equip 01’s that were just sitting in a window beside the road in a shop called the Junkyard located in Ota. The shops outer grounds were covered with 4WD’s ranging in size and shape all with lift kits and huge lights hanging off the front, sides and anywhere they could be placed. This prompted me to ask the question, why would such sought after wheels be sitting in a shop that by the looks of it only deals with vehicles of the off road type.

The vaction that started my now present life in Japan.
After a 8 hour flight from Australia to Japan I would have to say the first thing on my mind was drifting and no sooner after we landed we found ourselves jammed into our friends JZX100 along with his tools and drift wheels. We were getting carted off to our first drift experience in Japan at none other then the world famous proving grounds of Nikko Circuit.
But first we had stopped for some traditional Japanese fast food, Mc Donald’s……….

This once straight Work rim and AE86 are no longer after a spirited run around one of many the local Gunma touges went sour.
I first took this picture at ORC (Ogura) Clutch’s garage here in Gunma, then like most cars that crash in this area it ended up at my buddies workshop (Hoshino Car Style) for some much needed repairs.
